GROUNDED
COLD BREW COFFEE LIQUEUR
GROUNDED Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur is the step into the liqueur world by Hummingbird. With the rise of all things coffee, we thought it was about time to introduce a true coffee liqueur. no fancy additives or flavours, just pure unadulterated coffee! We reached out to the team at Northumberland Coffee to see if we could work together on something that would compliment out recipe perfectly!
We’ve used a single origin Columbian coffee as the base and it gives amazing notes of Hazelnut, Milk Chocolate and Grapefruit…. More on that in a minute! Pairing it with an amazing base spirit which is a full copper contact English wheat vodka distilled in the heart of Northumberland, creates a dark complex liqueur that is perfect on its own as well as in a cocktail!
what makes us different?
75% less sugar than mainstream brands
24% ABV - This allows for a more flavourful extraction
NORTHUMBERLAND COFFEE
What can we say about Northumberland Coffee other than their coffee is roasted to perfection and tastes amazing!
We worked closely with Amy and Ryan from Northumberland Coffee to make sure we got the right beans and roast for Grounded. Using their knowledge of coffee, we settled on their signature Columbian beans. The tasting notes on the coffee are; Hazelnut, Milk Chocolate and Grapefruit and once combined and infused with out base spirits, the flavours really jump out at you!
We absolutely love the coffee and it felt like a natural fit from the start. With the coffee, base spirit and ourselves all being from Northumberland, it truly is a celebration of Northumberland and the businesses that reside here.
The guys from Northumberland coffee are amazing at what they do, and if you ever see the signature land rover defenders or you pop in to Northumberland HQ for a mooch and coffee, make sure to say hi and let them know you found your way there from Grounded.
FAQ’S
-
Grounded was something of a passion project at first. It took Chris & Becca over a year to develop the final product. After years of espresso martinis being too sweet, we thought that a coffee liqueur should really showcase the coffee and not be filled with sugar and spices. Once the recipe was finalised, we decided to launch grounded as its own individual product that could sit alongside the RTD range.
-
It does. with around half the amount of coffee per 25ml shot as what a 40ml espresso contains, They are very similar in caffeine levels. We wanted GROUNDED to be as close to drinking fresh coffee but with alcohol as possible. If you are sensitive to caffeine, watch this space as a decaf version will be coming in 2025
-
Unlike other mainstream and popular coffee liqueurs, we have gone a little higher on the ABV. Sitting at 24% it really holds its own in a cocktail and when poured over ice cream.
-
Nope! We’ve pushed the limits of how little sugar we can get in final product. At around 125gram of sugar per litre, we have approximately 66% less sugar than the bigger brands.
-
YES! As we do a cold brew extraction method, there is elements of the coffee that squeezes through the filtration process. We looked at extremely fine filtering under pressure but the body and depth of the coffee was lost. Its totally harmless and allows the coffee liqueur to be true to its name!

Currently, our base spirit is made by the amazing team at Hepple (yes who make the fantastic gin in our cocktails). Chris, head of operations, makes an amazing full copper contact English Wheat Vodka. This gives our liqueur the perfect body of alcohol and allows us to get the ABV we require.

Oh yes! Its absolutely amazing in an ice latte instead of fresh coffee and works amazing with grapefruit tonic as a riff on a cold brew and tonic! Its also a really good additive in Liqueur coffees as it adds just the right amount of sweetness and doesn’t over power the coffee.
We would recommend pairing it with Northumberland Coffee beans to allow the liqueur to perfectly compliment the coffee.
